Special Activities

Special Activity groups typically meet from September to June on the days & times shown below. (Actual meeting days & times may reflect holidays, etc.) Each month’s Forecast (our newsletter) includes the date, time, & location of each meeting. (The Forecast does not include bridge or CARD.)

PM BOOKS – 3rd Sunday 2 pm
This group provides an option for a reading group that meets in member homes on a weekend.

FOCUS ON BOOKS I – 3rd Monday 1 pm
FOB1 focuses on reading and discussing fiction and nonfiction written by women or men. Occasionally we may read plays, screenplays, essays, or science fiction.

AM BOOKS & BANTER – 3rd Tuesday 9:30 am
AM Books and Banter is a group focused on reading good books of all genres. We are mainly interested in choosing books that have topics worthy of discussion. We enjoy interesting & lively conversations surrounding the books we read.

FOCUS ON BOOKS II – 4th Monday 1:30 pm
FOBII meets September through May except December at the San Carlos Public Library. We are open & welcome all! Our “theme” is reading books by female authors, mostly about strong women–those who overcome obstacles. The June meeting is reserved for our readers to suggest books for the next year, November is reserved for the One Book, One San Diego selection, & April is reserved for our Author’s Luncheon selection. Our calendar is readily available to all.

Outings

LUNCH BUNCH – 1st Tuesday 11:30 am
This group gathers to dine at a local restaurant & enjoy good food & conversation.

MEET ME AT BALBOA PARK – 2nd Friday 10 am
The Meet Me at Balboa Park Group is based numerically on the bridge (card playing) model. Eight to ten members each plan a docent-led tour of a museum in beautiful Balboa Park. Members become the “Me” in the group’s title for their month. The visits occur on the second Friday morning from September through May & sometimes June. An optional lunch follows the tour. A list of alternates is kept so that they can be invited to take the place of members who cannot attend in a certain month.  Culture, cuisine, & camaraderie prevail at our gatherings. Our motto reflects Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote “…curiosity must be kept alive.”

FRIDAY EVENT – 1st Friday 5-7 pm
This fun Happy Hour social is for couples & singles. Bring an appetizer to share & a beverage of your choice.
