AAUW La Mesa – El Cajon Career Day for Fifth Grade Girls
Career Day, which our branch has held in some years, has expanded the horizons and curiosity of the girls about careers involving science, technology, engineering, math, and careers affording better pay. Approximately 3,000 girls have participated since the program began in 1987. This program helps reduce the gender gap in STEM and other non-traditional careers for women by capturing a girl’s interest at an early age.
The girls rotate through the hands-on exhibits as each woman talks about her decision to become a San Diego Zoo Researcher, Radio Disc Jockey, Naturopathic Primary Care Doctor, Electrical Engineer, Pharmacist, Forensic Medical Doctor, Forest Ranger, and Police Investigator.
