AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN
La Mesa–El Cajon (LMEC) CA Foundation

LMEC Foundation began in the late 1990s and was established as a 501(c)(3) corporation in 2005 to provide tax-deductible funding for AAUW La Mesa-El Cajon Branch’s local scholarships and programs.

Over the years, our Foundation’s income has come largely from our members through dues and donations.

We periodically transfer excess funds to our San Diego Foundation (SDF) account, where our funds grow under the expertise of SDF’s investment managers. Annually, the SDF sends dividends to the AAUW LMEC CA Foundation. Since 2012, we have received over $55,000 in dividends.

LMEC Branch sends a small portion of what it nets on the Author’s Luncheon, the branch’s major fundraiser, to LMEC Foundation.

Scholarships Awarded in FY 23-24

    • Local Scholarships, First Female, Speech Trek – $13,500
    • Tech Trek (STEM camp for middle-school girls – $12,500
    • AAUW Fund (graduate fellowships & grants nationwide) – $10,500

Foundation Meeting Dates – 2024-2025

The board tentatively plans to meet on the following dates, all via Zoom from 3 to 4 PM:

    • Sept. 25, 2024
    • Jan. 22, 2025
    • April 30, 2025

The Annual Meeting & Luncheon is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

Membership in the Foundation is open to members of AAUW La Mesa-El Cajon Branch.

Annual Membership:       $25 – $999
Life Membership:           $1,000 (payable over 3 years)

Donations

We welcome donations in any amount at any time. Donors need not be members of the Foundation. Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Checks – Mail checks, payable to American Association of University Women La Mesa-El Cajon CA Foundation, or AAUW LMEC Foundation, to our treasurer.
